Silvy Weatherall - Silvart

PAINTINGS
Silvy concentrates on the patterns made in the agricultural landscape. She takes her subject matter out of context and gives it new aesthetic meaning. The people who have seen her work have commented on how, with the help of her eye, they have seen a new beauty in the landscape .
The Art Critic, George Melly describes Silvy’s recent work as “Where Realism meets Op Art”.

FEATHERS
Silvy also works with pheasant feathers (a by-product of Ben’s game dealing business.) Depending on size, she applies feathers onto card or gessoed hardboard , making decorative pieces, again concentrating on pattern. Sizes range from 1’ to 5’ square.

METAL WORK
Silvy’s preoccupation with the agricultural landscape extends to agricultural architecture. She sees the reflection of corrugated iron in the landscape and aims unite the two in her sculptural work. Silvy has recently received a Visual Arts Award from the Scottish Arts Council, with this she has furthered her welding and engineering skills under the tutorledge of John and Greg Gibson at the Glenmidge Smithy,Auldgirth.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Silvy is a keen travel photographer. Her photography skills have recently gained public recognition and she was selected to be an Artist in residence in Brittany over a period of a month in 2006 to take photographs for the Brittany Tourist Board. Culminating in Exhibitions in London, Paris and Edinburgh.More residencies are in the pipeline.
